Open Question: Why can’t you double major when already majoring in education?

I want to double major in education and psychology, but the advisor I spoke with said that when majoring in education, you can't do anything else BUT education. Could I get away with going ahead and taking all of the classes for both education and psychology and still be able to graduate with both degrees? Help please!
